Client:       BAA Southampton

Location:   Southampton Airport

Sector:      Transport

Elliott Modular was commissioned by BAA Southampton to design and construct a permanent building at Southampton Airport that is used for crew facilities for Flybe, British Airways, ScotAirways, Britair as well as facilities for the handling staff at Aviance and BAA.

Due to its condition and size, the previous amenity area has been replaced by an Elliott Modular permanent building, which is made up of 39 modules over three storeys.

The factory-engineered modules have suspended floors mounted on a galvanised steel base frame and have been fitted out by Elliott Modular on site. The external walls are sheeted with a silver cladding to create a ‘non-modular’ appearance.

Windows that have been mounted in to the frame feature solar shading and acoustic lamination, which reduces noise by 49 decibels.

The building was designed with disabled access in mind and, as such, has a lift in the centre to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

The 12,000 sq ft building also includes a steel monopitch roof, with over-hanging eaves, built up with metal on insulation decking that provides positive shedding of rainwater.
